RMG Engineers opened a branch in Iraq in 2011 starting with limited activities, which can be summarized as follows:
- Field Construction Observation and Material Testing.
- Geotechnical Subsurface Investigations.
- Structural Design Review.
- Foundation Designs.
The primary project for RMG Engineers was New Erbil Food Distribution Center, which is a large commercial investment project, invested and contracted by Redyar Construction Contracting Ltd, for information on this project visit: www.erbilfdc.com
The project consists of three phases, phase one consist of five main buildings of approximately10, 000 meter squares, Mini cold storage building with 40 Mini cold storages, Medium cold storage building contains 16 medium size cold storage and a Large cold storage building of 3500 meter square in addition to the infra structure (Water, Sewer, Storm and Electrical & communication Networks) Phase two will consist of a mega cold storage building of 12,000 meter square, a whole sale dry food building of about 14,000 meter square, a three level Sam’s Club/Costco style club market and a 20 story business tower. The third phase of the project consists of many warehouses for food sorting, food packing machinery and equipment, recycling area, a bank building, a police and fire station buildings, weighing stations, a small motel, mechanical workshop area and a gas station.
The project faced stoppage and financial difficulties after disputes started between Iraq Central Government and Kurdistan Region Government, Oil price drop and the war with ISIS. Construction is re-scheduled to resume mid June 2016.
